Where History Is The Heart Of Our People.

Historic Downtown Sevierville. Sevierville is the county seat of Sevier County which was one of the original counties formed in Tennessee in 1796. The county was named for Colonel John Sevier, a noted Revolutionary War soldier and the first governor of Tennessee. The county was originally part of the lost State of Franklin and court was held in 1785 at Newell's Station, north of Sevierville. After the dissolution of Franklin in 1788, Sevier County settlers governed themselves as part of territorial government until the formation of the county in 1795. The first court for the county was held on July 4, 1796 at a small settlement located at the forks of the Little Pigeon River which became known as Sevierville.
